History

The Continental T-Belles Track Club, Inc. can trace its history to the Tigerbelle Track Club Development Program—a summer track program started by the legendary Coach Ed Temple.  The purpose of the original club was to provide track and field competition experience for young women, as sanctioned by the USA Track and Field Association.

In 1980 when Coach Temple was not allowed to continue the program due to NCAA rules, Coach Temple passed the baton to Sam Smith, an assistant and protégé.  Under Coach Smith’s leadership, the Tigerbelle Track Club was renamed the Continental T-Belles Track Club.  The club has continued and expanded the legacy started so many years ago.  The club has evolved into a year round track and field program serving young women ages 8-18 in the State of Tennessee.

The year 2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the Continental T-Belles Track Club.  This is a distinctive honor for a club that seeks to provide opportunities for young women to strive and reach their potential, embrace teamwork, increase their self-esteem, and set and achieve their goals.

Our greatest success stories have been young women who become self-reliant, disciplined and productive citizens.  However, none of these things could have been accomplished without the support and resources of parents, families, coaches, the community and the athletes.
